Sakura

12 May 2015

This past weekend we, along with what seemed like the whole population of Toronto, visited High Park to see the blossoming cherry trees in High Park. I try to avoid crowds when I can, but the blossoms only last about a week so as long as you look up and not forward, all you will see are white fluffy clouds.
The trees were actually gifted to the High Park by Japan in 1959 (countries give each other flowers too :)). In Japanese tradition, cherry blossoms (or 'sakura') symbolize mortality, because of their exceptional beauty but quick death. No wonder the cherry blossoms symbols were used during WWII to motivate Japanese soldiers on the front - "live free or die hard". And indeed, beauty feeds the soul and the spirit. Without beauty in our daily lives, we are prisoners to our routines and have-to's.
Another interesting fact is that cherry blossoms are edible! in Japan they are added to traditional desserts (one dessert on earth I have not dug my teeth into yet tehe) and even served instead of green tea on special occasions! Now, I've drank all kinds of tea but have not tried sakura tea before. A trip to Japan is in order!

Trench Season

15 Apr 2015

It is finally SPRING!!!! *jumping from joy*
I am so happy to finally bring out all the spring coats and jackets and not have to layer and look like a giant bear anymore. I had the most fabulous sunny weekend and was so happy to finally wear one of my staples - the trench coat that I got from Coach store in California. I had been looking for a classy timeless trench for about a year and nothing was good enough, until I saw this beautiful coat that brought the store mannequin to life. It's garnished with clean subtle lines and has everything it should have in place - storm flap, straps, lapels, leather inserts. Its simply perfect. I was originally planning to get the original khaki trench, but couldn't resist the clean look of this one.

Roma - Day 2

30 Mar 2015

I have completely disappeared, I know I know. But I have one million very valid excuses. Although I won't bore you with those! The good news is I did manage to remove the full SD card from my camera and go through a few pics that we took in one of the most beautiful places on earth...Italy!

Another Dimension

24 Feb 2015

If you got a chance to read my last post, you know the insanely long but adventurous road trip we took to get to the place where the pictures you had just seen above were taken. Not only did we get lost in the middle of the Wild Wild West, with no reception or signs of civilization around, but we also didn't make it for the last day tour of this incredible canyon.
So we spent the night at the nearby town called Page and tried our luck again the next morning. And EVERYTHING  was worth the 1.5 hours we got to spend inside this mysterious, awe-inspiring, breathtaking place. I felt like i traveled to another dimension...

The No-Plan Plan

2 Feb 2015

After spending 2 weeks in Hawaii and California, we didn't expect much of Arizona. After all, what can possibly beat the Road to Hana and those awe inspiring waves at the Big Sur?! Arizona was the second last stop before our flight back home so it was always an afterthought. But Sedona changed our minds...

How do you think your personal style reflects on who you are? I have always been fascinated by psychology, so much that it was one of the subjects I ended up majoring in. Personal style runs much deeper than you think, it speaks wordless volumes about who you are. I recently came across an article by Forbes on what your clothes say about you, and one of the things it mentioned was that your style does not only reveal information about you through first impressions, but it also reflects how you want to feel (Read full article here).
